Moreton Bay Marine Park
Bribie Island is surrounded by the protected waters of the Moreton Bay Marine National Park. The marine park covers appoximately 125 km of coastline from Caloundra to the Gold Coast.
Pumicestone Passage Marine Park
Pumicestone Passage, off Bribie's west coast, provides a 6000 ha marine sanctuary for migratory shorebirds, turtles and dugongs. This internationally significant wetland offers a crucial protected habitat for many species of bird and marine life.
Turtles and Dugongs
Bribie Island is one of the few places in Queensland to witness the spectacle of dolphins frolicking in the sea with their young, or dugongs surfacing from the seagrass beds.
In this area of great natural beauty, conservation of the natural environment and its inhabitants is a high priority. The creation of the Moreton Bay Marine Park in 1993 has ensured that the waters surrounding Bribie Island will remain an important breeding and feeding ground for endangered species such as the dugong.
