Beaches

Bribie Island has a fantastic selection of beaches on both sides of the island. On the eastern side, over 30 kilometres of white sandy surf beach stretches the length of the island.

Surf Life Savers patrol the main beach at Woorim weekends, public and school holidays. If you have a 4WD and like to escape the crowds, pack the rods and a picnic and hit the beach. Find yourself a secluded spot to spend the day. Explore fresh water lagoons just off the beach, great for the kids to play in.

On the western side, the sheltered waters of Pumicestone Passage always look inviting and are a favourite for families, especially with young children. There are plenty of picnic tables, BBQ's and playgrounds along the Esplanade at Sylvan Beach and Bongaree. Calm water and spectacular scenery make for a relaxing escape, whether it's for a picnic, a swim or just walking the dog.

4-Wheel Driving

Bribie Island is the closest place to Brisbane to experience the exhilarating freedom of four-wheel driving on an ocean beach. Cruising up the miles of beach from Woorim offers a unique view of the island's raw beauty. Permits for driving on the beach should be obtained from the Bongaree Caravan Park or Caboolture Shire Council before driving on the beach.

A short detour inland reveals pristine freshwater lagoons, wallum scub and exotic wetland habitat. At the northern end of the island lie the ruins of historic Fort Bribie which formed part of Australia's line of defence against invasion during World War II.
